Excessively Heavy Period
5 Answers
I have been having periods for 42 years now...aa previously discussed, always heavy. I now have fibroids and am on the change...i started this period this week on Tuesday 11th. Yesterday mid morning i started bleeding at a rate of knots....i mean i have to wear two pads at a time anyway....but i was having to change them every hour and a half and they were sodden. Blood was all over my trousers...even if i give a slight cough it is running from me. Should i go seek help....or ride it out? I really don't know what to do. TIA

Reassurance is what you need as a woman's description of blood loss is not always an accurate description of urgency of treatment... ...I do not suggest that is the case with you, but please do not panic. Clots are more debilitating than actual blood loss and you haven't mentioned the presence of clots. I am not sure that your GP can be of much help here and i would...

My mother had such a heavy period just before she stopped completely that she became anaemic and her GP gave her iron tablets.
My periods were always light and 28 days without fail. Post ectopic they were heavy and all over the place. They're settling now thankfully but I have 2 known fibroids and they don't help.
You could ask your GP for something that may help you get through this - but be assured this is nothing unusual.

If you feel "down" weak and tired at the end of this period than go to see your GP after it has finished and blood tests will give a good indication of how much blood you have actually lost.
Sooner or later it will be a decision re. hysterectomy.
Blood loss looks frightening, but is not always as bad as it appears.

Not quite As bad as yours but I'm on mine this week and I've also gone through clothing to the point I was working on laptop at home, stood up and I've flooded through to the fabric of the chair I'm sat on and almost ruined it. I feel perfectly well though. Think Sqads advice seems good though if it's really worrying you then get it checked out x
