Dive Buddy . . . I remember one trip many years ago, to Tortola. Our group was to dive Salt Island and go on to the wreck of the RMS Rhone. There were 4 of us from the UK - all BSAC qualified and the rest (approx 16 - 20) who were progressing their PADI "C Card" were all from a very large state in an even larger country to the North West. After pairing the four of us up, the Dive Master went on to explain that he had worked with the others the day before. He said his greatest challenge was to impress upon them that their "dive buddy" was not simply someone in the water who happened to be "in the same ocean on the same day!"

Apologies . . I recall . . . they already HAD "C-Cards."
We too encountered our friends from Mockba at Hurghada. They chartered 3 large dive boats for themselves. At 07:30 each morning their local reps had to make sure that the table on the quayside was covered in bottles of clear liquid to help them, we thought - brush their teeth after breakfast, prior to boarding or to clean the inside of their masks once on board. This exercise was repeated upon their return - we surmised - to get rid of the salt taste from the spray. My wife and I used Colgate for both purposes - maybe there was a shortage of the stuff in the USSR at that time - who knows?
