So saddened. The acting world is sorely diminished.
Hywel Bennett, too. :o(

A bad day for British acting....

Oh no Jack I had not heard that bit of news.
A sad day indeed.
Indeed a sad day for acting world with Hywel Bennett also passing away today.
RIP both Robert and Hywel - fine actors both.x
What was the name of the programme that Hywell Bennet was in, late 70's. I think it was just the characters name.
On wiki, it says Hywell Bennett died on 25 July. Strange.

Thanks Rocky.

I recognise Robert Hardy was a fine actor but much of his work passed me by.
RIP Robert ( a great friend of Richard Burton )
rocky - re Hywel Bennett, good point - perhaps it's just been the announcement delayed for some reason?

This says "...last week" -

According to the Independent, Bennett died on July 25th.
Perhaps the family has only just released the news, I liked him a lot, very versatile.
both excellent actors, r.i.p
I remember seeing Bennett in "Percy"
Hardy did the voice-over for an appalling history programme in 1967 - British Empire - Echoes of Britannia's rule

the tree huggers at the Beeb in full anti imperial flow - with an array of marxist one liners and put down delightfully delivered by Hardy

It was demolished on Points of View or Back-Chat as 'so bad you will have to stop transmitting it' and
'you cant sell this or the Beeb will be the laughing stock of the transmitting world'
and
'Robert Hardy has a history degree - didnt he complain about some of the things that you had him say - he jolly well ought to have done!'

it was in fact abandoned week 7 I think- it had a glorious replay a few months back and I didnt check if the mistakes had been corrected.
I was sad to hear this, RIP Robert.
