I can understand why he believes this as he was brought up as a strict Catholic ("life is life"), but I can't agree with him - even the morning after pill would be a no no to him.

How do you feel?

Omg, he is indefensible in almost all things that he opens his clueless mouth about, and especially in this matter.
Plenty of catholics manage to adjust their morals to the real world.

The guy is a religious lunatic who cannot think for himself. Beneath contempt.
Re the morning after pill: there is no life started at that point. There might be an ovum in situ that might potentially become fertilised.
Jeez, the man is ridiculous.
the man is crazy. Off his trolley.

As Krom said, beneath contempt.
If we really need another reason why RM will never be in Number Ten, at least in the near future, then this will be it.
No, I don't.

Doing what your religion tells you to do abrogates your responsibility to fully consider the facts and consequences before making ridiculous pronouncements on difficult issues.
Do I agree with him. No. Does anyone ?
I don't agree with abortion but I believe in a woman's choice to control what happens to her body.
Let me think about this one very carefully, and then I'll come back to this thread as soon as I've considered his position and arguments with the full respect they deserve.
No.
Not in the slightest. Although entitled to their opinion (men) that's as far as it goes. Abortion is 100% a female issue and for females to decide on.
I don't agree with him.
No. I do not agree with him.

he was being seen (by the harder right) as a possible contender to succeed May; I think he's now blown that opportunity. Credit to him for not trying to hide his views, but there's just no way he's going to be PM.

I don't think he's a lunatic, he just holds views that others don't, and he's prepared to take the consequences of stating them. If you want someone prepared to adapt their views to changing circumstances, stick with May and live with policy announcements being reversed every 10 minutes.
Exactly Prudie
Although I don't agree with him on the abortion issue he is entitled to his own viewpoint.
All he does is parrot the church doctrine though. Even in the case of gay marriage he's never actually given a reason, he just insists it's a matter of doctrine. That's not "his view" that he is nobly sticking to, it's somebody else's.
//. Abortion is 100% a female issue and for females to decide on//

Can't agree with you there
That isn't in dispute, but ... as a PM? It's inappropriate for someone to have opinions that conflict with the responsibilities of high office.

Also, being entitled to an opinion doesn't mean being entitled to hold it free of criticism when it's so obviously crass and awful. He's a berk, and he's going to get called a berk, for having such an opinion.
Exactly jim. At some point in the last few years, "criticism" and "censorship" got their meanings mixed up somehow, and it's proving extremely hard to reverse.
