That is the clue for 17d.(Telegraph aware) answer is Broad.

Solvers using the paper version of the puzzle will have been confused by an error in the printed clues, where the clue for 17d was published as the clue for 17a, while the clue for 17d was slightly different from the on-line version.
Telegraph are aware and will accept Broad as the answer.

Thank you Mamyalynne - that is all I wanted to know. (Is a 'broad' a thoroughfare though? I might not have gor it, even then!)

Hi Solvers - It came to me in the night! I hadn't realised that BROAD was a 'B ROAD' which makes sense of the clue . . .
