1st question: 7 letters with 2,3 and 6 being same letter

2nd question (this one); 8 letters with 4 and 5 being the same letter

Does the 8 letter word start and end with N; or start with N and end in S; or start with S and end with N?

If it's the same code word there is no answer with ten letters. I put needled initially. The pattern is ???d??d - D being the only letter given in the whole puzzle. I'm pretty sure I am correct having finished it. Seedbed being the answer
