“I am no fan, but the statement that the CBI and NHS should be listened to makes clear sense on this issue.” Does it? I don’t think so. Dealing firstly with the NHS, that organisation is one of the most inefficient and badly managed of any large organisation in the UK, possibly in Europe. Its bosses preside over enormous levels of waste, stupendous...

Common sense dictates that if a large number of the "foreign" workers, currently employed in the NHS were suddenly to leave, then it would be a disaster.
Most people realise that, of course, so I am sure it won't happen.
But this news item and this post will be attacked by the Usual Suspects, just because it involves Diane Abbot, so expect the worse !

Hmm.
Scaremongering is the reason for 'johnny foreigner' leaving.
As it turns out EU nationals working (or scrounging) in the UK will have more rights than native workers (or scrounges) so no need to go just yet.
The question is not really how many will leave but how many do we need to come each year. And that is what we will eventually be able to control.

Sorry posted before I had finished my thought...
Also it doesn't matter much if we are out of the 'we must accept all and any EU worker'. When we are out we can still accept and advertise for workers where we see fit. The difference will be that they won't be able to jump on a plane or boat or whatever on the off chance.

"TTT...what about the issue...care to comment on that ? " - there is no shortage of workers if employers can't get them off their sofas they'll have to pay more until they can. Market forces dear boy. Migrant workers have been artificially depressing wages, I'd have thought you'd have spotted that mikey. The NHS spends a fortune on agency workers rather than paying proper salaries for full time employees. The NHS needs to shake off its layers of red tape, too.
TTT has said more or less what I was going to. It's a bit of a vicious circle and not completely straightforward... the more workers (from anywhere) that are available- the further the wages drop - and that then discourages workers to join, so we have to get them from somewhere else. The pay is artificially low as it is.
