Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

Anyone got a solution for 1d in the right hand grid? I can come up with a sensible six-letter solution to the clue, and I think the extra letter to add in is V or G... but I can't make a 7-letter word from there...

What is the clue?

I have the extra letter as e

I used V in the left grid in 7a .
clue answer is threat ....put in extra E ....thereat for the grid BUT that clashes with 10a which I have PEORIA (anagram of operation minus NOT) ??

...warning of heart-breaking time (6) - which looks like 'threat' to me, but it's one of the special clues with an extra letter to be added before entering in the grid.

Agree re Peoria at 10ac, but have used 'e' in 13ac...

i did too at 1st but it could equally be an L in there

@Toorak - if it is then they should have printed 5,2 rather than 7 - "The word lengths indicated refer to their respective entries."

possibly ... but the clue says (7) ?

i used the W in 12a but could be G at hte front i suppose

Any ideas on how the 2 answers at 24a work?

24ac: Notice, not ice
Lades (def'n= empties), Lad(I)es and then Ladles the grid entry (so 'l' not available for 13ac)

So 'v' at 7ac, 'g' at 12ac and 'w' in a (wrongly enumerated) 1d gives me a complete pair of grids, all 26 letters used once... but am open to hearing alternatives!!

I (tentatively) have THREATS for 1d. I thought the S was needed for 14d, but I’ve put the Y in its place. I’ve only got about ten clues so far, but I can’t see anything else that will work in 1d, apart from the desperate W.

I have S in lhs 26a and y in rhs 14d. If it is w in 1d hrs then it is 5,2 not 7

I have s and y in the same places as johnh42
The only possible solution I can see for 1 d on the right is 5 2 rather than 7 - maybe a setter's error?

I have to agree with (5,2) for 1d, RH grid. But I'd prefer it if Threwat had been a sidekick of Alfred the Great, or something similar.
