or as they have it 1124. They have also omitted to print the clue for 22d, and 25d, but that has already been dealt with elsewhere. I have E_A_O for 25d so possibly the answer is Erato the Muse of love poetry but I would like to know why if it is. I'm also stuck on 15d, for which the clue is Composer following contrary men who wrote of Clive's foot. I have F_O_E_G_R - it is possible that the last 5 letters are elgar because of the composer following part of the clue. The letters must all be right, as they come from 4 fictional characters (two from Dickens and one each from Austen and Tolkien) whose names cannot be spelt in any other way and a quotation which can't be any other word. Any help would be appreciated.

Froberger was a composer....
F(ollowing) ro (other ranks/or reversed) Berger (author of the foot of Clive)
Thank you Toorak. I had no idea how it parsed, just that it fitted.

What is the clue for 25d , please?
The clue for 25d was -

I'll inspire a poet or singer to visit Eskimo on vacation

Erato - 'rat' (singer; grass, in) 'E(skim)o' (on vacation)
Sorry m'lady, crossed posts - long time, no speak - hope you're all well? (Apologies to KathG for the diversion)
Hello LIK, yes I rarely come here now....it started when I couldn't get on without constant interruptions....something to do with my tablet I think. Things are much better now, but I have sort of got out of the habit of coming on.
Haven't been too well of late but picking up now thank goodness. Hope you are well, Maj.
I'm well, thanks - sorry to hear you've been poorly but glad you're on the mend :-)
Definitely improving.
Lordalex still hale and hearty and Son-and -Heir still loving living in Norway.

Glad you're well too.

Thank you. If I had ever heard of Froberger I'd forgotten him. The names of the Muses I remember perfectly - which I'm sure their mother Mnemosyne the goddess of memory would approve.
