The L comes from soLdier - the clue for that was “warrior “- can’t think of anything good else for that.
The R comes from stRaight and the clue for that was “unswerving “
Unless antipyretic of those are wrong?
No local park - crossword is in local paper ,but clues are never anything to do with our local area
No, dont think so as 1 across is “so so” ( clue was “mediocre “) and the two “s “ in that word gives the start letters of straight and soldier both down clues .
Everthing round this clue fits well - I think there may have been an error in printing , but just wanted to check with others in case I had blinkers on!
Had thought of that ,but there are two more across clues that fit with soLdier and not samurai.
The “I “ in soLdier fits with idIosyncrasy ( clue characteristic)
And the “r “ fits with heRmit ( clue anchorite)
Also the first “ I”in IdIosyncrasy fits in with StraIght
That’s what I meant by all fitting well around this except for two missing letters
Just to let you know , you were right . The answers are always in the next edition of the paper and it was ‘role ‘ so the clue was mis typed
ie. clue was “park “ and it should have been “part”
Thank you .... I would not have worked that out myself !
