Hello again. Funny (odd) day. His Nibs was playing away today so I didn't go . It gave me the chance for a lie in for the first time for ages and ages! SWMBO was not too pleased but, for me, it was bliss. When I did emerge from the sack it was lashing rain and has kept it up all day . I was worried that His Nibs must have got soaked and I rang him to see that he was OK. it turned out that the rain didn't start until after their game was over. But he was pleased that I cared . So it was worth while calling!
Thank heaven for the crossie though. I think I would have been demented if I hadn't had it to keep my brain going. And finished (well, apart from checking some things with you). He is coming in about a quarter of an hour and, as SWMBO has gone to meet a friend, we'll be just the two of us for a couple of hours. As you might imagine, I am looking forward to that!
On to the puzzle.

I have answers for all the clues but a few, as usual, I don't quite know why.
The first is: "Act for army corps head, though lacking papers." I think the answer is represent . This meets the Act for bit and RE (I know from previous puzzles) is the short version of an army corps. but I can't put it all together.

The next is: "Tremble with fear, having accessed the pumps" I am pretty confident that the answer is "shake in ones shoes" And I know that pumps can mean shoes. But again the rest???

Quiet and knowledgeable about ancient Japanese religion. I have found "Shango" as a religion and sh is quiet. But the rest??

That's it for the moment

Help, as ever, gratefully received

Thank you Mamyalynne. Sorry I was typing my last response and didn't see your answer. I still don't quite get the "shake " part though. can you help me a bit further please?
(I hope you are well)

When you tremble with fear you shake.
Question Author
Yes I see that. it's in the other half: "accessed" I don't get
steven
If your pumps have been accessed the you (or possibly someone else) is 'in your shoes'
In = accessed
^ then*
Question Author
So the "shake" part is unclued?
(btw what does the "then" signify Mamyalynne')
Shake is clued by the tremble with fear
Tremble with fear (Shake), having accessed the pumps (in one's shoes)

^then* was a correction to my previous post
