Hello. I found this one quite hard but some really good clues in it! I have one possible answer but where I need explanations ( or correction).
39ac. "Thought's being restricted again, as it were" The answer seems to be "deliberation" which meets the thought bit I suppose. But the rest?

I'm being summoned. so I may not be back for a while. But thanks for any help

I'm back. Thank you both very much indeed.

I know I said I wouldn't go on about things other than the crossie, but I must tell you this. I said that I had been summoned and so I was. What I didn't know then was that SWMBO was taking me out for a meal to celebrate a little success I'd had. Which was sweet of her as well as unexpected. But even better was that , when we arrived at the restaurant, His Nibs was there! They'd plotted it behind my back! So we have just had a great meal in the company of the greatest people in the world. And I come back to find that you wonderful people have answered my question.

Blush. I won a prize for "best essay of 3000 words and more" . It was competitive and they had a lot of entries. So feel a bit proud. And the others did too.
(Not exactly a Nobel or Book of the Year. But it's a start)

Thank you for that Scorpiojo. I did enjoy writing about His Nibs and SWMBO ( an occasionally others) but I wasn't sure that purists weren't a bit aggrieved that I was using a crossword site to write of other things as well as clues.

Thank you both. I'll try not to overdo it. It's just that sometimes I feel so happy with what happened that I want to share it. Bit childish I suppose.
And yes Mamyalynne the surprise was part of the enjoyment. I thought that SWMBO just didn't want to cook today...
