13d: "Sixty different footballers get a goal?" appears to be THREESCORE, but how does different footballers become three? Can different footballers mean any number greater than one (and why not any other kind of team players)?

three score is sixty.
three different footballers score (ie) different footballers get a goal
sixty is threescore , 3 (different) footballers score a goal

Thank you all. As a non-follower of football I imagined that THREE must be some slang team nickname. I feel this clue lacks the precision expected of RT crosswords!
My good rtxwdtrier, this is the Radio Times crossword, not the Times. The clues are not quite as rigorously formed...
