I finally arrived the same answer, but yet again the clue is flawed. 'Changed sides' indicates that both the first AND THE LAST letter should change. To get the answer 'loach', the setter should have written 'vile creature changes side'. Really annoying, as so many of this setter's clues have been over the last three months.

Phil sides refers to l(left) an r(right) so the clue is correct.

Blimey! Thanks, Danny. I never would have worked out that one. I still think it should be side (sing.), though, as only right is being changed to left. Surely we'd need an additional l to r change to make the plural valid? Anyway, on a separate issue, I probably wouldn't have got it at all if Loach hadn't been an answer a couple of weeks ago, too. Might be worth swotting up on the cast list of I, Daniel Blake given the setter's penchant for clues along the lines of 'actress'.

I don't find roach particularly vile. Not impressed with the recent changes to Everyman. Eat into was annoying, but the 2010 one was elegant.
