Hi Cloverjo. The concert was great and a little bit sad really because he was effectively saying Goodbye. He engages with the audience which I like and he was quite candid about his life and his struggles. He can't hit the high notes anymore which is why I wanted to see him now and not wait until he finishes the tour at the end of next year. I particularly liked the end where he came on in a baseball jacket and morphed into a cartoon version of himself walking off into the sunset down the yellow brick road. I was waiting for Your Song because it was played at my Mum`s funeral so I wore her wedding ring to the concert and that was a little poignant. The atmosphere was good and there were quite a few parties going on on the balconies of the apartments which overlooked the ground. At one property, about 20 people had climbed out of the window and were standing in the pitched roof of a house. The rain kept off too (good job the concert wasn't tonight).
He came on stage about 6.20 and sang for about 2 3/4 hours which is remarkable really. I noticed he was stiffening up a bit at the end and was finding it a bit harder to get back to his piano stool which he seems to like leaping off at the end of each song. Must be hard work at his age but he's an old trooper.
Ha! There were a few of us in a park dog walking near to the concert venue yesterday pm. Some security guys were hanging around when a helicopter came in to land. We knew it would be Elton as the concert was on. He waved at us as he got from helicopter into a car. Got it on video LOL. Heard the concert from my flat.
I did enjoy it, though I can't with any honesty say it was the best EJ gig I've ever seen. As has been mentioned, he can't hit the high notes any more, though one of his band mates took those on and it didn't detract too much.
Really, I just wanted to say "see ya, mate" to an artist whose music has meant so much to me for nearly as long as I can remember. And the walk off into the sunset at the end left me in bits.
In the same way as we're still listening to Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, Elton's music will never disappear.
