Hotpoint Freezer Intermittent Red Warning Light
22 Answers
Hi, I have a Hotpoint FZ175 upright frost free freezer about 10 years old. The red warning light is coming on which according to the manual means the temperature is too high. I have checked all around the door seals finding no cracks, dirt etc and the door has not been left open. Next I turned the temperature dial to off and turned off at the plug as per manual instructions. When I turn it on again the red light has gone out but the freezer is silent. After about 15 mins, you hear the freezer turn on so it is running. It worked all last night but during today the red light appeared again so I went through the same procedure again. I am now going backwards and forwards to the freezer every couple of hours as this red light keeps coming on. The compressor at the back of the freezer is hot but I assume it is supposed to be. When the freezer goes quiet, it seems that is the time the red light comes on. I found myself getting up at 3 in the morning just to check the freezer as it is fairly full of food. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

From what you say it looks like the ' Refridgerent Gas has run out ! It always leaks away slowly , I am surprised it has lasted 10 years !! The compressor being hot is another sign that the freezer is near the end of its useful life span ! Time for a new one ! (Most last less than 6 years !! )
Foxy have a look here for good priced white goods.

Is there enough space behind it for good air flow,my daughters used to keep cutting out in the summer. When i went over to look at it it had somehow got pushed back right against the wall so was over heating.once we pulled it away from the wall it was fine,it may not be relevant to your problem but just a thought.my fridge freezers 20 years old and still going strong, hope you get it sorted.
