Tilly, I found it helpful to circle each alternate clue number so I could more easily identify the solutions to be anagrammed with the extra letter (I circled the clues where the first solution had to be treated in this way). I also listed the letter to be added next to each clue.
I have done the letter list. I'll try circling the clues. At the moment, I just have a pencil mark at the start or a pencil mark at the end. Good tip, Toorak.
Well, I have a degree in German and I've not come across it, though a quick Google tells me the spelling was used in the 19th century, and of course can be with one n if it's a name, e.g. Susan Sontag.
