i was under the impression this was already implemented on contactless cards to stop anyone who finds / steals your card to get any more than £30 ( 5 x £5 transactions)out of your account by contactless, sounds right to me

sorry 5 x £30 transactions to stop taking £150 out of you account
Question Author
from the web
There is no daily cap on the number of individual transactions you can make (each up to £30), but occasionally, as an extra security measure, you’ll be asked to enter your PIN to verify you are the account holder.
contactless only allows purchases of up to £30, anything larger and the machine will just tell you to enter your PIN. But this sounds as if they are now going to add up your contactless transactions and demand your PIN whenever they reach €100, even if the individual amounts are under £30. I've not had this happen to me (yet).
There were reports in one of the papers the other day of people paying for a single item by tapping their card 2 or 3 times in order to exceed the £30 limit. This is probably designed to stop that.
Contactless feels just to risky to me and I have had all my contactless cards replaced. I know the banks say they will compensate people who have their cards stolen but this is banks we're talking about, so I'm not convinced they'll be falling over themselves to pay you back quickly.
