Discussions about this yesterday, could be setters error as clue parses as tail. Someone suggested loco, but if so very bad clue. I have just left mine blank. Although I never send it in just do it for enjoyment

Lots of comment on this. Has been suggested that it is an error as answer should be 't ailing' which doesn't fit

It's clearly an error. The clue for TAILING, which I believe appears elsewhere in the grid, has I suspect been incorrectly replaced, leaving two clues for TAILING and none for the L?C? word.

It's clear they have printed the wrong clue for 9d - as there is another clue that also leads to 'tailing'

I know from experience how hard it is to write a 'proper' cryptic clue that leads to two completely different solutions, and this clue is a perfectly good one for TAILING.
