souse is an old word for to get drunk.
around noon = m = midday
A smouse is a South African pedlar or trader.
Souse can also mean a drunkard.
m(noon) inside souse(drunk)
The 12-hour clock is a time convention in which the 24 hours of the day are divided into two ... Noon itself is rarely abbreviated today, but if it is, it is denoted M

It's - m(eridiem) - Latin "noon"
