Change To Sunday Express Skeleton

Just returned to UK from Europe and first stop got my Sunday Express after 10 weeks away. What has happened to the skeleton format why does it now say how many letters for each answer? Takes away from effort of working out clues.
I'm not impressed with today's copy I might have to change my username. I am no longer a fan!! Is it a different setter now?

I've noticed also that the £1,000 Crossword has also become easier over the last two weeks ..... I've completed them without having to look up an answer. ;o)
