Curtains (death) - 'curtain' (cover) + ([ha]'s pointles)s' (in the end)
Question Author
Hi Li-in-King. Get that Curtains means death and that Curtain is Cover but where the 's' comes from in your ([ha]'s pointles)s' (in the end) explanation I don't get ?? Could you try again for my decrepit brain !!
It's just that S is the last letter (end) of POINTLESS
not a great clue is it?
Hi Bricklayer - sorry, as I posted it, I thought it looked clumsy!

If the clue read "Death cover has pointless in the end" it works. The setter had to use the ' to allow for the more satisfying surface reading.
It is a poor clue IMHO. Even Death covers would be better, the additional obfuscation is a rather silly device.
Perfectly decent clue IMHO.
Is it a Dean Mayer?
No

Thanks all for the help. I also think it's a bit of a naff clue !!
I didn't find it a bother - as said it's about how you read - cover's - cover has, works.
