Unable to enter them in the grid.

Can someone tell me what clue answers go in Row 1 on either side?

Also need help with:

Gases, maybe lethal ones, no longer granted licence, finally (6)
Begins with G, H or I.

Pot of tea for one in outrage (5)
Begins with S or T.

I think 1d is acetal but have not yet figured out what else.

Yes - ACETAL.

Yes, one name does start with A and its first name is 6 (but not 6 for the surname).
The other one does start with M but not A for his surname, and not 5, for his first name (but 7 is correct for the surname).
