I struggled to find the theme, despite working out the entries for the dotted areas quite quickly. I think it was pure luck that I stumbled on the cells to highlight, since I had never heard of the song, although it turned out I did know some of the text words from a rather obscure opera. It seemed like GWIT to the ninth power while solving, but when it all came together I revised my opinion. This was a very decent puzzle and certainly fair.
I did a lot of blind internet searching for likely words from the song, based on the relevant clues, and this threw up the lyrics to a number of rap "songs". After reading some of them I felt like I needed a good long shower!

A very accomplished puzzle with a lot of thematic material. I agree it wasn't as hard as it looked thanks to some generous clues, though asymmetry made the lower half trickier. One clue in particular defeated me until the end, after filling the empty cells. While going through the nouns and verbs in the clues I did think of the source though I didn't link it with the song, though I do remember that. The trouble is I very rarely pay close attention to song lyrics.
