Jack’s imitator Tom, who’s on an outing? (7) T?I?P?R. The obvious answer is TRIPPER but I don't know how to parse the clue.

I'm no wiser shoota. Why are you taking the the om away from Tom and where does imitator fit if it's not the ripper (from rip off)
T Ripper- as in how people are known by an initial for their first names.
I can only think that imitator is being used meaning that the names are imatative of each other.A bit of a bad clue IMO.
Instead of J Ripper, its T Ripper ( imitate or substitute) J for T
