73 correct AshORE (on land)
26 Escot (poetical term for pay) = Escort (chaperone) - R
As it's the Christmas special and there's a long time for entries, you should take time to enjoy this one, Matakari!

Matakari, you have mistakes in 5,8,32,39 and 72. I hope you can sort these quickly and easily. It's tricky to tackle one of your very long lists when there are errors. Still, maybe you'll manage now?

Many thanks jj109, elliemay1 and Neveracrossword for the great help! I have solved 39, 72 and 99 as well as a few more of the preamble. Think I'll reserve some of it for later on now. Cheers!
Thanks, Matakari. Even for you, 14 clues was a bit ... needy! Glad you have soldiered on. It was a very enjoyable puzzle, so worth persevering.
Ask any time you like, Matakari

Thanks, elliemay1, I'll certainly take you up on that offer!
I don't seem to be able to put it down, it's so addictive.
And I've got some poetry to comment on and some haiku
to write! But it all helps in this horrible period of confinement!
Matakari, there's one important point to remember... last year the Spectator didn't stick by the published closing date! They gave the winners' names BEFORE the closing date and I think you were a little miffed.

PS I'd taken it as read that you'd know to come back for more help!

Yes, Neveracrossword, I was quite disappointed by the Spectator last year, it was quite awkward and embarrassing, to say the least! Just
hoping that this will not be repeated this time! By the way, have you got a peek at Derek Harrison's Christmas clue-writing in the form of an anagram? Quite hilarious and ingenious! I enjoyed it! Cheers!
