if I was Macron (assuming he is pro EUSSR) I'd hold the referendum ASAP because I don't think there is enough of a will to leave now, leave it a few year though and it may well grow. If he gets it done now he can put it to bed for a generation.

France (and Germany) will never leave the EU because they are the power. More likely is they may one day manipulate to more suit their needs, if the EU changes too much.
