Earlier on like about 20 minutes ago I came across a competition via (I think this site AB).

It is from Amazon and you gave your name address etc. They ask you to pick a gift box (oh by the way if you win it is a Pro Iphone £799.

You pick the gift box - the first one not successful but the second one I was and I won? the phone.

they ask for your (Amazon) for your bank details so that they can take £1 for shipment if you won the phone. is it a scam - cos I have an Amazon account and they could take the £799. just wanting to know thanks

Is this is a scam cos there have been some reviews saying some people won and some didn't.

Yes it is a scam.
Take it as a scam, jj. Don't give your bank details.
Don't give anyone your bank details in such circumstances JJ.

tony AV - oh I know it is probably a scam but why would Amazon "lend" their name to such a thing/thief
They haven't lent their name to these thieving scum bags, the thieves have made a web site up so it looks official Amazon.
Question Author
ok - am glad I asked. Like I never do give my bank details but this sorta looked official
They don't lend their name
Jennyjoan, 100% scam. I had one purportedly to be from Microsoft, of course it wasn’t. They use familiar company names hoping to dupe the unwary. Never give bank details.
Amazon no more lend their name to such sites than countless celebs do to those sites which claim celebrity endorsement. (e.g. there are LOADS of sites that claim Martin Lewis, from BBC consumer programmes and the Money Saving Expert website, highly endorses the products or services that they're offering to the public. They're ALL scams). Anyone can design a web page that looks exactly like a genuine Amazon one with hardly any effort involved at all.
jj, if you get any other emails / links that you are not sure of please ask on here first.

oh yes especially you my love Tonya-V. No I'm too long in the tooth for that carry on now.
I once nearly fell victim to a scam. On a new computer I tried to log into my HSBC account. The page looked genuine but it said they had changed the method of login. They asked, inter alia, for my social security number (non-existent in the UK) and my PIN (banks never ask for that). A crude attempt, but others may have been fooled. The social security number was their downfall as far as the UK is concerned.
Ohhhh your such a tease, jj ;-)

Oh I like you Tonya!!!
;-)
Buenchico rapidly flicks through his moderator's handbook: "Is flirting allowed on AB?", he wants to know. No, it looks as if Jennyjoan and Tony are OK, as long as they don't get to the stage of playing footsie under the table ;-)
LOL
Glad you looked it up, Chris ( Thought I could be in trouble ( again ) there ) ;-)
You've pulled right enough Tony.
LOL. Still got it after all these years, Mamya ( like learning to ride a bike ) ;-)
