A lovely tribute in the Guardian crossword on Tuesday by the above mentioned, remembering what would have been Araucaria's 100th birthday.

I can't do cryptic crosswords and I certainly could never set them. (I find it hard enough setting my non-cryptic ones!). However I greatly admire those who've got the brains, the patience and the necessary sense of wickedness to compile cryptic crosswords. I know that many people regarded John Galbraith Graham (a.k.a. Araucaria) with great affection. Here's the crossword which he used to announce his health problems:

Perhaps Araucaria was secretly an AB member? We've currently got two cryptic crossword setters within our membership (unless they're actually one and the same), so this site appears to be the sort of place that they're drawn to!
