Cannot see it as other than "anon", but how does it parse? I get that before long is anon and the middle of morning is "n".

I wondered that too.
Best I could come up with was that either the setter had got mixed up with 'eon' or that 'aon' was an alternative spelling of 'eon' that I couldn't find.
