Why the blanket effusive coverage of the Euros from the pro-Brexit British media?

Come to that, why are Brexit Britain even in it - we left EU didn't we ?

Cake and eat it springs to mind.

We left the EU not Europe, and Euros in this instance means Countries in Europe.
Because it's for countries geographically in Europe and/or members of UEFA, not politically part of the EU.
as far as I know, Britain is still in Europe?
Canary //we left EU didn't we ?//
Yes, we left the EU we did not leave Europe. But you know this v.ery well
Your most pathetic nonsense in weeks (and there's some stiff competition)

How on earth did you even think this made sense?
You don't half put your foot in it a lot, Canary.
The European Championship has nothing to do with the EU, many countries that take part aren't in the EU - 55 countries take part, there are 27 countries in the UK
Naomi, I assume by "it" you mean his mouth. It's a wonder he can talk (and ofter, a shame)
*often
Even Israel is a member, that is definitely not a European country
// there are 27 countries in the UK //

yay Yorkshire got its independence!!
Such an easy slip between the K and U keys, and such a difference in meaning :D
what a difference an r makes :-)
Leaving aside the EU issue, it does beg the question why such ridiculously over the top and excessive coverage is afforded to what is likely to be a prolonged series of second rate matches of a very tedious game.

Yesterday I was given the first of a series of "Twenty Page Pullouts" in the middle of my paper. Conveniently they did not put anything in the middle of the pullout that may have been of interest so I was able to simply extract and ditch the entire section. Quite why it requires more than fifty matches to find a winner from 24 entrants (when a winner from 32 teams could be found in 31 matches) is a mystery. But I suppose it's more material to fill up the twenty page pullouts. I wouldn't mind the pullouts so much if they'd confine all the drivel to that section which I could then ditch. But the "sport" section will contain another ten or twelve pages daily devoted solely to football. Perhaps I'll have to stop buying a paper for the duration.
canary: "Come to that, why are Brexit Britain even in it - we left EU didn't we ?" - your ignorance is breath taking, we left the EUSSR not Europe. Guess what, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine etc are not in the EUSSR either. Do try and use your loaf occasionally.
The media go wild over football to justify employing so many ex players as 'experts'.

It's a circular situation, innit.
The media will go wild...awful scenes at the Denmark Finland game.

Christian Eriksen has collapsed, they are doing CPR, absolutely devastating for everyone in the s t adium
the commentators are in shock he just dropped in his tracks, the ref should send the players to the dressing rooms and call off the match
Looks like the teams have decided to leave the pitch
