I think I've found the puzzle & there are special instructions, to wit -

"In the 8- and 10-letter solutions, and in one 6-letter solution, either Jack Sprat (10 solutions) or his wife (6 solutions) has chewed and swallowed a food item of his or her preference. In the subsidiary indication of these clues, this item is clued in its original, unmasticated form. For example, if either of them ate wheat products, the clue "Brother or sister briefly studies related stories" could lead to SI[B + READ*]S, which in turn gives SIDEBARS. Other clues are normal."

It's essential to include such when asking for help :-)
as i've found to my cost L-i-K :-)
Today I also found the same puzzle and instructions, which explain why, in the clue I answered yesterday, 'TB' and 'one' (T-bone = steak) is 'chewed' into 'Eton b', and then followed by 'red'.
I reckon the second one is PALMABLE (a desirable quality for a magician's prop), made from PALL (jade) and AMBE (a lot of amber) with the letters LAMB 'chewed' into MABL.

Thank you
For the first one: INSINCERE (not meant) with INC (business) lost to (replaced with) BUTT (bum) gives INSBUTTERE - 'chew' BUTTER to ERT TUB and you get INSERT TUBE (get ready for irrigation).
