1.Godfather of advertising? Ans Sponsor. A Godfather could be a sponsor I suppose and if you sponsor something then I suppose you are advertising your brand but can't quite put it together.
2.Country annexed by Indian continent, it's reported. Ans Croatia. Croatia is pronounded Cro asia but where does cro come from? The international vehicle registration code is HR and not CRO so that theory failed.
3. Order to import more Italian narcotic. Ans Opium. There's an i in opium but can't get the opum.
4.Legal expert , in a state, simply having to get over it. Ans Jurist (legal expert) but can't see how clue works.
5.Someone playing Blowin' in the Wind. Ans Oboe. [Blowin' in the Wind was in italics]. Oboeist would have worked for me but can't see just oboe.
6.Married man without hard-wearing trousers. Ans Denims. I thought answer might be usband being some sort of foreign trousers but sadly not.

Thanks all . I think having to know the Italian for more is a bit of an ask. I know the French plus and the German mehr but how many languages are you supposed to know to do the Times Crossword?
