I suspected, for some time, that the Saturday prize crossword, in the magazine, wasn't all that it seemed. The amount of prize money wasn't specified, and prizewinners' names were not published, even though the newspaper staff said that they would be published. I tested the system by sending in completed puzzles for about 6 weeks. Even though my puzzles were correct, nothing relevant was printed in the paper, so I stopped sending my entries in. Not long after that, I noticed that the caption wording had changed to indicate (I think) that it was no longer a prize puzzle. Now, I see that all references to it's being a 'prize' puzzle have been removed. They move slowly at the Yorkshire Post.
