Some really puzzling bits of wordplay by Crucible this Saturday. e.g. 14 ac: Boss’s sore back leads to withdrawal from society. (9) With the letters I have and definition must be RECLUSION, but WHY? Also: Smoke that surrounds local star. (CORONA). And: Large plain stable dam. (MARE), although I guess that part of the double definition is mare = the ‘seas’ on moon’s surface.

Thanks all. I think I’d pretty well worked out two of these, but unravelling ‘the boss’s sore’ was beyond me - so many thanks!
