i would hazard a guess, ELF as this has come up in quite a few crosswirds over the years but it would help if we had the number of letters

RTE are usually a bit more cryptic and wackier than this and allso longer than this so maybe its not the full clue

it usually comes up as santas little helper but i would imagine poetic licence would stretch to rudolph our red nosed

Could it be Rudolph Valentino some some said Cupid Okay I know it is wrong but thats my story .

having looked around the web it comes up as a beer in australia but i don't see how that would fit in

there is also a reference to a HOLLY KISS KISS story but that is well beyond me, perhaps the valentino connection has some merit?

Yes I thought it did'nt seem like a typical wordy and offthewall RTE clue. If it is helpers not helper then fawns looks a good option
