Did You Know? ......Javelin.....
5 Answers
If you google "javelin World Record" you get 98.48 from Jan Zelezny in 1996, however that's only the record since the IAAF felt compelled to change the centre of gravity of the javelin to make it come down quicker. They changed it in 1984 shortly after Uwe Hohn's very nearly through it beyond the throwing area. The true world record of 104.8m will probably never be beaten. Before the change the javelin flew flatter and would often not actually stick in the ground so the spotters would have to note the place it first touched. After the change it nearly always sticks in.
