Local Crossword Clue… Stumping Eveyone

Hi this is a local crossword. I cannot get
Surprised as headless monster dances. (8)
I have no letters apart from surprised is the anagram indicator. That was given by the setter as nobody was sending answers … so it’s not just me who’s stumped. Thanks in anticipation.

I thought dances would be the anagram indicator.
It could be like a local quiz so may not follow all the conventions of crosswords in national papers??

Only anagrams I can see are treasons, senators and serantos but that's artwork. Maybe we need the name of a monster like dragon

It's odd that the setter knew noone was submitting because if this clue.
Headless monster could be (v)ampire, (b)igfoot or similar???

So … the setter has given another clue .. she says ‘just go through mythological monsters and get rhythmic’
So I am now trying headless monsters or 9 letter monsters from which I can remove the head … nobody is getting it!

Calypso, dance, isn't given in Chambers - but it's a definition in my big Collins dictionary (often a standard reference.)
