Novalis I was writing when you posted. Blend is a bit far-fetched because there is no link to 'grape' or 'variety', in other words it would be a naff clue. There might be a clever solution, but I can't see one.

thanks, teach. Most wines are blends. They are usually allowed to call them by a varietal term so long as the main variety exceeds a certain percentage. The clue isn't very clever, simply a definition clue. (Unless the 't' is correct!?

Blent is an old past tense of blend but it's not specific to wine or a grape.
