Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

It must be torpid, but why?

23d Bird’s prey rook initially dropped (5) A _ INE
I think it is AVINE (avian/birds) but why does Ravine = prey - R(ook) = avine
Ravine = prey ?????

Ravin, raven and ravine have an entry in Chambers, and it says 'in Spenser and Milton, prey'.

if you google torpid meaning it says in my first year i rowed on Torpids ....a series of races for eight oared rowing boats held in Hilary term

Unfortunately, I still do not see how the clue works mallyh!

(Oxford uni)all i can see is Keble were the first then Torpid and it's some sort of bumping race

JJ109, Chambers has 'torpid' defined as the a second boat of a college', but I can't put the rest together! Pid is Dip, reversed,upended and that could be 'soaked', but I'm left with Tor (or Rot, if that's included in the 'upended')

Thanks again both - you got as far as me Nac, - I can't see the dip rot.

I know it is torpid - but I absolutely hate it when I can't totally parse an answer!
