Is It Ok To Wash A Cat?
16 Answers
When I was little I had a cat called Tibby and my grandmother thought it would be a good idea to wash him. We ended up with scratches all over our arms!
I didn't know ow any better back then so went along with it. Cats clean and groom themselves so no need for washing unless they get something nasty on them that they should not ingest.

Helen, I had Ginger when I was 6 and my parents gave him to the neighbours as they thought I was too young for a cat. They got Tibby for me when I was 10 but he fell ill and died 5 years later. The I got Snoopy as a kitten when I was 15. Back then I didn't know any better so didn't wash them when they were kittens. Snoopy lived to 15 years and developed kidney failure.
I then got Tigger and Blue from Battersea and they were 2 years old. They wouldn't let me have kittens as I work full time which was fair enough.

When my beloved Patches was nursing her four kittens,
the food that the vet's staff said that I ought to be giving her gave her really bad diarrhoea, which left her absolutely covered in her own faeces as she laid in her cat bed with them. I changed her diet but then consulted the veterinary nurses (who, in turn, consulted the vet to check their advice) as to how to clean up my utterly filthy, very pongy cat.
Their advice was to stick to the rule about never washing a cat (unless, of course, its got a poisonous substance on its coat) and simply let her lick all the poo off. It wasn't long before she was looking beautiful again.
