For over two hours I have been listening to the same horrible boring music on the phone from the doctors' surgery. They phoned me last Tuesday to check on me and I ordered a prescription for two inhalers to be sent to my chemist. Phoned chemist this morning as i haven't received them to be told they have not received the prescription.

Doctors don't answer the phone, Doctor says I can't go out as cold will further damage my lungs, my last inhaler will run out tomorrow evening.

That's why I'm screaming.

in my experience it's fine, as long as people do what they're supposed to. In this case the nurse didn't. I waited two months for an X-ray this year before checking and finding the GP had forgotten to order it. But that's not the system's fault, that's iatrogenesis.

We can email our doctor.
Does your surgery have another phone line that you could try? It might not get you directly through to the receptionists but it is a start.
Can you ask someone to pop
into the surgery for you?
A neighbour perhaps?
I wonder if NHS 111 has alternative numbers for GPs’ surgeries? Might be worth asking them if they can get through.
wait till after 6pm then call 111.
I would call 111 now whilst the surgery is open.
Naomi, all they do is say that your surgery is open and wont help.
ring your pharmacy and say its an emergency and no one will help.

Thanks everyone. I've just lost a long reply to each of you. Scream!

So I'll just say the phone is next to me awaiting a call back from the surgery when it's my turn. Hopefully before they shut.

I'll play Solitaire while I wait.
It is really not an acceptable service.
Is that what they say, TTT? I’ve never asked for their help with something like this so I wouldn’t know. I just thought it might be worth a try.

Alternatively, fender has made a good suggestion.
Naomi, yes they are a waste of space until your GP closes.
TTT, they're available 24 hours a day. Anything is worth trying. It’s only a phone call.
ok but I have first hand experience of this, they are kin useless if your GP is still open.

gulliver - go away! she can't get them to answer the phone.
^ try not to be such an ass Gulliver- it's patently obvious that ladybirder is screeming to herself in frustration
Margo: "^ try not to be such an ass Gulliver- it's patently obvious that ladybirder is screeming to herself in frustration " - impossible, sadly.
Doesn't your surgery and pharmacy use either the NHS or Healthera prescription ordering apps, which allow you to order repeat prescriptions online, that go direct to your GP for approval, then on to the pharmacy for dispensing. These apps allow you to check that your request has been approved, and when. The pharmacy will then usually fill the prescription within a couple of days, if they don't have the items in stock, or immediately if they do.
TTT - very true
Ladybirder I sincerely hope that you have heard from your doctor by now, but if not I wonder if it's worth contacting the chemist again to see if they can chase the doctor for the prescription. Did you tell them you run out of medication tomorrow?
