I have been harbouring a cold for a few weeks and was a little concerned it had turned into sinusitus. You may recall I had a "Radiofrequencia de los cornetes" done in 2018 +-. Horrible procedure. Anyway, I went to see an ENT, not my usual one as he is on holiday. I told him about the procedure I had had done and after he stuck his instrument up my nostrils he said " well, your cornetes are enormous", that procedure is a waste of time and doesn't last. I was quite shocked. He asked if I normally breathe ok, I answered for sure. No problems until I got this cold. Can you explain to me what he meant by that ? Apparently my sinuses are ok, in the end it is just a cold. I feel better today. He prescribed me a spray to use for 7 days. Thanks Sqad. I remember you giving me good advise when I had it done

que es radiofrecuencia de los cornetes
.
. y recuvo
Es una intervención quirúrgica muy poco traumática que respeta la integridad de la mucosa que recubre el cornete, por lo que no afecta al funcionamiento de la misma, y no excede, en general, los 20 minutos de duración.
so that is OK then7
sqad of course used to do this ( and more!) for loo-loo so will be able to give more detail
( I was gonna say 'expatiate' but ABers get so bad tempered with long words in December )
To the mods : radiofrecuencia de los cornetes
is NOT penis enlargement

Thanks PP, but I wanted Sqad to explain why this ENT thought it was a waste of time. I have to say that although I had it done a few years ago, usually I can still feel the benefit. But why oh why did he say they are " enormous" . Awful procedure and then the recuperation for weeks having to wash out 3 times a day.
Yes, Samy, I can help.
Just to put things in perspective, it is unusual for sinusitis to follow a cold, despite public opnion and particularly on AB.
You seem to have what is known as Vasomotor rhinitis, a condition of the nasal anatomy called turbinates, which when the swell produce nasal blockage and or nasal discharge, thick or thin. The cause of Vasomotor rhinits is not clear, but is frequently, but not always due to an allergy.
The treatment of this condition is rather haphazard as the cause is not really known but does indeed respond to steroid nasal sprays, operative procedures are disappointing in that they may well have to be repeated frequently.
You clearly have Vasomotor rhinits causing swollen turbinates and I agree with you new E.N.T surgeon as to staring you on nasal steroids.
You are not suffering from sinusitis but vasomotor rhinitis that will come and go for the rest of your life.
Keep away from E.N.T surgeons -;)

I did all 3 privately;-) but my specialty was Head and neck surgery.
Samy.....that spray is fine, you will see mentioned that you should only use it for 10 days.......NONSENSE ( in my opinion) but always have a spare steroid nasal spray in your handbag for the rest of your life.......and use it when necessary.

I am not sure if one spanith surgeon should criticise another surgeon - this clearly excludes sqad
It upsets and confuses the patient.
Here is another, nearer home

double guessing on renal dialysis and it was off to the GMC for him ( clearly not sqad - but naughty second doctor for sligging off first doctor)
oh and Dr L was up to a bit more if you read - complainants lost the lap top with all the nardy messages, they said

If its any consolation the spray should kick in quickly and you will gradually get your sense of taste back over the next couple of weeks. I'm not a doctor, I suffer from the same thing and was told to use the spray twice every day until symptoms subside then once a day. Every time I go to get my prescription I get a lecture of the pharmacist 'only use for maximum 5 days!' I've given up explaining to them I just nod now .
