Good day, a feast of anagrams from Doc today! I have completed the grid except for the Unclueds which I leave for last. Just one clue stands in the way of a flawless solve. I would like an answer for it, thanks in advance!

I thought Doc's effort was too easy today (Just under an hour for me). 41a was the best clue IMO. With 34a being the worst. The end game is very straight forward. The title and the preamble give some very good info. Good luck with the remainder Matakari. :-)

The best thing about this Doc puzzle was reading about the history of the thematic entries.

I know what you mean Novalis. Did you find 34a as dull and strange as I did. Or have I missed something. I won't give the answer, Just wondered what your thoughts are ?

Yes, I did find 34 across a little odd. If others are looking at this thread all the thematic entries can be found in sources other than Brewers.

Matakari, sorry you didn't manage a flawless solve, I was hoping this would be a completed puzzle for you! The themed stuff should be familiar to you, it's been done before - and Doc's titles are always revealing.

Klazo, yes, this was hardly the most challenging - or interesting - of puzzles.

Indeed NAC, It was a bit of an anti-climax compared to the offerings of Pabulum and Fieldfare. In saying that, The theme jumped out at me due to my knowledge of the subject. Last week had me going round in circles for a while due to my little knowledge of that subject. I'm sure Matakari will get there. We are here to help if not. :-)

Thanks, Klazo. Matakari managed to solve a couple of Spectator puzzles last year, and those were both from Doc - so I was hoping for another success today...
The rotation of Spectator setters means, in theory, that there should be happy solvers every week. Doc has quite a few fans, I prefer all the others!

I remember you saying on my first attempt a few weeks ago that Pabulum was one of the harder setters (and your favourite). And I have to say that I agree with you thus far (More setters to come I'm sure). I still appreciate the effort it must have took Doc to compile this (although a little too easy) But I shall look forward to his next offering.
Roll on next week for something a little more challenging, I hope. :-)

The 'M' is wrong Farrwest.
A word for set off and then a word for fish will give you the sea creature.

Klazo, I am glad you're experiencing the whole range of Spectator setters. (And a little PS is that I used to like Doc's puzzles, he set some great ones... in the past). I couldn't help chuckling at your hint for Farrwest - I have done the same myself!

I have to be honest. I scrolled back down to see how to spell Farrwests name. When I scrolled back up, The fish had swam round the bowl once. lol
