Tennis?
T e n n y
WaN SKIN
NN IN YET BACKWARDS
OK no such word!
Tewny?
tenne
A tincture, rarely employed, which is considered as an orange color or bright brown. It is represented by diagonal lines from sinister to dexter, crossed by vertical lines.
Bobbinwales, your Tenny is perfect - and in Chambers. Tenne doesn't work, because of the 'yet', hover, reversed bit.
NAC, Tenne doesn't work, because of the 'yet', hover, reversed bit. Could you explain further, is there something not shown that requires the "Y".
Donny48, I thought the 'however'* meant Yet, and 'back' meant reversed, so Tey. 'Contains extremes of wan skin' gives us the two Ns.
*not 'hover', simply a typo!
Te nn y.

PS I think this is pretty much what Bobbinwales said.

thank you everyone who helped!
NAC, that works well, many thanks.
Thanks, Donny 48. I should have added that Chambers gives Tenny as a variation of the Tenne that you defined.
I failed to notice your perfectly acceptable explanation, Bobbinwales. Apologies.
