Prisoner?
How many letters?
Defendant?
We usually give the number of letters and name any letters we might have. People around here have gotten lazy like that. ;)
I'm wary about posting a pic of the puzzle as it says "This crossword may not be copied for any other use" & I've no desire to see AB called to task.

Answers are all Scottish words & phrases.

This answer is (4-11) & my Scots isn't up to working out any crossers right now, though it *might* begin with an 'H'...
Usually referred to as heid bummer but, obviously, not enough letters.
JohnT gave these letters

Name given to person in charge (4,11) ???D / ?I?LY?A????
Possibly HEID ?I?LY?A????
Busy at something else, so can't really have a good try at it, but it *might* be - H???-???L???????
Hi Scorpy! Sorry, we crossed, well spotted :-)
Heid Highheidyin?
? starting with willy ...then wa??er .. would it be allowed??
Ellie, thanks. I've always known Highheidyin (though only in speech, never seen it written down) and a Heid Highheadyin sounded quite logical! It doesn't work with the letters given, though...

For info - the original 'L' comes from - Land owner (5)

I'll ask the Eds if I can post the puzzle, that'll save time in the long run...
SpareEd has given the ok for the post, so here's a PDF (less the entry coupon, I thought that best) - if you want to print it, open the link, close the "Sign in" box that might appear & you should see a black bar at the bottom of the screen - click the printer symbol on the far right of that bar.

You might need to adjust your printer settings - eg, mine says "Fit to printable area".
