Wow. This was a tough one! And, I thought, some really odd clues!
I nowhere near finished it before I was summoned for my bath. And I never thought I'd be thanking my classics teacher but remembering Achilles' victim gave me lift off when I was really struggling . I've just finished it with, as ever, some answers because they fit the spaces and at least part of the clue. Not good enough for you experts but I have to acknowledge my limitations.

Afternoon, Steven. I too slogged my way through this one, with many a moan and nary a smile!

Is this the prize crossword in MOS.

MargoTester, I think it'll be the Times Jumbo - Stevenj tackles that one regularly (as do I).

StevenJ, maybe your title should have been Times JUmbo Cryptic 1234 (or whatever number it was!)

Neveracrossword - how strange Achilles victim was the answer to a clue in MOS!

Oh, maybe it was the MOS puzzle, MargotTester! I no longer have my copy  of the Jumbo and can't remember any clues.

PS Steven mentions tackling it last night, so I think my first thought is probably correct...

I often find that clues/answers correspond in different crosswords on the same day. I'm sure you're correct about it being the Times

Thanks, MT (hope that's OK?). Yesterday's Times puzzle did have some really odd clues (and odd words as answers too)!

Of course, or just Margo if fine by me 😀

Thanks, Margo... from NAC!

Great ,that makes life easier NAC😏

Sorry. Yes it was the Times Saturday jumbo cryptic. Glad others ( I'm thinking of you Nac) thought some clues and words were odd.
