There's no element represented by an 'A' alone, whereas - B(oron) & C(arbon) are ok.

Thanks! I was thinking along those lines (schoolboy chemistry lessons on the periodic table haha) 

Fleshpots Minor, stay after class & write out the Periodic Table 100 times.

I can get as far as Helium...

It's too late to answer this clue which I've only just seen, but it's a chance to boast that for some reason I can still remember things like the first 20 elements and most of the atomic weights from O&A level days almost 50 years ago.  Looking back, it's perhaps no wonder I never got invited to parties in those days! But don't ask me what I did yesterday or what my wife asked me to pick up from the shop today.
