Recession Risk As Britain Reels From...

..........frost, snow and ice in December?! Whatever next? It shouldn't be allowed. Not allowed, I say! I blame Global Warming. Or maybe Climate Change. Or perhaps polution. Maybe the gulf stream. Or the jet stream. Or El Nino. (El Tel?) It might be the ozone layer or the coriolis effect. But having seriously, (yes seriously!) thought about this, I've come to the conclusion the the main culprit is VAR. It's gotta be VAR. That's the cause of everything now isn't it? Even the Tories are blaming it for the economic crisis.
Er, just a minute. That might be VAT, not VAR.
Anyway, this weather shouldn't be allowed at this time of year and we should do something about it.
Any ideas?

actually....... well it's just a theory, but it runs like this -
the jet stream forms the boundary between cold arctic air and milder mid-latitude temperatures. because global warming is causing the arctic to warm faster than lower latitudes, the difference in temperature at the jet stream gets smaller. this weakens the jet stream and causes it to throw large wiggly meanders which either bring cold south, or push heat north.
I find this mocking dismissal of a very serious problem very distasteful.
I noticed your blanket of blame included the Ozone Layer. Might I remind you that the hole in the Ozone Layer was taken very seriousy by responsible people and we are successfully repairing it by banning CFCs - we can do it if the will is there and the idle naysaying ostriches in their smug little comfort cocoon are ignored.

You need to get out more. Oh I forgot; you can’t: it’s too hot/cold/wet/dry (delete as appropriate after looking out of the window).

No we can’t. Especially when China is currently burning more coal than the rest of the world put together and has, in the pipeline, coal fired power stations with ten times the capacity of the UK’s entire electricity consumption from all sources. Best to accept that and learn how to deal with the changing conditions.
Never mind, it will all stop when Mr Starmer takes over.🤣
