Clue Chain 3
Miser has kindly asked me to start Chain 3 so here goes ...
The idea of the game is that the setter poses an original home-made clue which everybody is invited to solve. The poster who solves the clue first (hopefully identified by the setter) is then invited to post their own original clue, easy or cryptic.
My clue: Lightly touch a seabird would indicate a design. (7)

Mally: In the good old days before 24-hour clock and digital watches and other nonsense, if someone asked you the time late evening you would say "It's twenty to ten".
Move forward to modern times and half an hour later you could (although unlikely perhaps) say "It's twenty-two ten" (22:10).

I remember that confusion was rife when the 24-hour clock became common usage (although in use for years in military and other specialist circles). And of course many folk (me included) still prefer the old 12-hour version, it's usually obvious whether you mean am or pm. I would never say "I'm off to bed at ten past twenty-three" 😀 😀 😀 😀
